Sesriem Camp, Sossusvlei, Namibia

Sesriem Camp is situated at the gate as you enter the The Namib Naukluft Park making your way to Sossusvlei. The camp is about 310km from Windhoek and a further 60km from Sossusvlei itself. driving from Windhoek you will be driving on gravel roads for large parts of the journey. The camp also forms part of the NWR group. Located at the camp you can also find the Sesriem canyon. The Tsauchab River has shaped the Canyon over millions of years and it is one of the few places in the area that holds water all year round. The main attraction in the area would be Sosusvlei itself. A big advantage of staying at Sesriem is that you head to the vlei a hour before day vistors and outside visitors are allowed. This helps you beat the traffic a bit. The road from the camp to Sossusvlei is paved up until the last 5km. This is fairly thick sand and you will require a 4x4 to drive the last part. However if you don’t have a 4x4 you can park your car at the end of the tar road and make use of the various shuttle services to take you in the vlei.

The campsites are built in 3 different molds. All of them have a tree in the middle to provide shade. Some of them are surrounded by a rock and cement wall , while others are just surrounded by small poles and others are open plan with no border structure. On most of the sites you will be able to fit at least 2 camping trailers. All the campsites have has a cement built braai with a grid and 3 point electrical outlets. There is also a light albeit not the brightest of light so it is advised to take flashlights and lanterns with. The ablution facilities are very typical of these sort of camps. It is equipped with flush toilets and showers with hot water. There are 2 main ablution areas in the camp and both are also equipped with a sink where you can wash your dishes. There is also a swimming pool area where you can cool down on those hot Namibian days.

At the reception area you will find a shop that stocks the supplies. Firewood can also be purchased at the shop. There is also a fuel station at the reception area where you can fill up with diesel and petrol. Just outside the main gate there is also a major fuel station at Taleni Sossus Oasis. (See our Review on this camp: https://campinginafrica.com/campsite-reviews/sossus-oasis-campsite-sesriem-namibia?rq=sossus ) Here you can find a slightly better stocked shop as well as a facility to repair tyres. Back at the Sesriem reception area you will find a bar and restaurant area where you can enjoy a cold drink or a nice meal. Wi-Fi vouchers is also available at the reception area.

Sesriem is a great camp to stay at when you are visiting this area. To see the full campsite review please watch the video below.
