This week I visit the beautiful Olifants River Lodge near Middelburg in Mpumalanga. The lodge has a big campground with a good amount of stands where you can camp. Some of the stands are right on the edge of the Olifants river while other stands are a bit more inland. Each stand has access to 220V electricity, some via a 3 point electrical outlet and some via a blue caravan plug. You camp on grass and all the stands are fairly level. The ablution facilities are in good condition and consists of stall with hot water showers and stalls with flush toilets. Next to the ablution area you will find a scullery area where you can wash your dishes. The lodge has a lot of activities to keep young and old entertained. You have the option of 2 outdoor swimming pools to choose from and a indoor heated swimming pool. There is a big spacious play area for the kids and next to it even a putt putt course. In this area you will alos find a lapa with pool tables and dart boards and this is also where you can book any activities through the lodge. These activities include; air rifle shooting, laser clay pigeon shooting, archery and juksei. The river is also great for canoeing and doing some fishing. There is also a few hiking routes around and you can even do some bird watching. On the premises you will find a restaurant and bar area where you can enjoy a drink or a delicious meal. There is a basic shop at the lodge as well where you can buy firewood and basic food supplies. If you do not what to camp, you can stay in one of the many other accomadtion options such as rooms and chalets.
