Star Wors, Nieuwoudtville, Northern Cape

We could not wait to go to Star Wors. We heard a lot about the campsite and were not disappointed at all. At 360km from Cape Town it is a good stop over en route to the Kgalagadi. This is very popular in the flower season and we were fortunate to visit in the flower season.

This is a tongue in the cheek tribute to Star Wars, the movie. Legend has it that the Galactic Empire attacked the Hantam planet to get the precious star wors recipe. A brutal battle evolved, but luckily the wors recipe stayed safe. You can even buy some of this wors form the management. The camp site is on the battlefield of this epic battle.

Star Wors is just 8km from Nieuwoudtville. The camp is in a rock landscape with interesting corners and braai areas and a rock pool. There are three campsites, Darth Vader, Yoda and Jar Jar Binks. Each has a lapa area with a built in braai, working surface and zinc with running water. Every campsite has its own shower facilities, decorated in the Star Wars style. The toilets are shared between the three campsites. Some of the toilets are also in character. There is no electricity. You can organize with management to use the private wood fired hot tub at each campsite.

Evidence of the “battle” storm troopers and skulls and all sorts of things are all over the campsite.

As you enter Nieuwoudtville, there are stalls selling freshly baked roosterkoek. This is a real treat. This area is very famous for wild flowers in the flower season. We were lucky to see some of the flower even though it was the end of the season. It is worthwhile to pay the Nieuwoudtville waterfall a visit. It is dry for a big part of the year, but beautiful when it is in flood.

On your way to Nieuwoudtville, make sure to stop at Bagdag Café. This is a nice stop for coffee and breakfast.

A visit to Star Wors is a must. I am sure you will enjoy every minute.
