Vensterklip, Elandsbaai, Western Cape

Vensterklip is a campsite close to Elandsbaai in the Sandveld. The camp is 230km from Cape Town and a mere 5 km from Elandsbay. Vensterklip is on the West Coast of South Africa and the campsites look  out over the Verlorenvlei.

There are different campsites available. We were on one of the private campsites. It has a great view of the vlei and as it was at the end of a good rain season, the vlei was filled with water.

Each campsite has its own private ablution facilities with a flush toilet, shower and basin. Hot water is from an electric geezer. There are 3-point power plugs, a zinc and a build in braai on the site. The campsite is covered with grass.

Verlorenvlei is a World Heritage site and a bird watchers paradise. This is an excellent area for hiking, surfing, fishing and you can see rock art. In the flower season you can admire the spectacle of wild flowers.

Die Rooi Stoor is an interesting farm stall with al sort of bric-a-brac, home bakes and local produce. You can buy wood from the shop. Next to the Rooi Stoor is a well known restaurant with delicious food. Hertzog’s favourite is the nachos. This is ideal for breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is a play area for kids. It is a popular wedding venue.

We paid Leipoldtville a visit and stumbled on the yearly festival. What a wonderful occasion. We had good food and entertainment.

Vesterklip is petfriendly and as the campsites are well demarcated and separated by a wooden fence, it is very suitable to take your dog along. Savva enjoyed every minute of our stay.

This is a lovely destination with a lot to do in the area. Do go and visit.
