Glen Reenen Campsite, Golden Gate National Park, Free State
Glen Reenen campsite is located within the Golden Gate National Park in the Free State. The camp itself is about 300km from Bloemfontein and your nearest town will be Clarens which is just over 20km away. Once you enter the gate at Golden Gate National Park you will continue the road for a few more kilometres before reaching the reception area. At the reception area you will find a shop where you can buy some of the basic essentials including firewood. There is also a fuel station located at reception, and you will also find the self-catering chalets around this area. The campground itself is located right across the road from reception. The camp is fenced off, and the gate is locked at night. The stands are basically what you would expect of a National Park campground. Each stand has a fireplace, and you pitch you camp around it. Some of the stands has a cement area where you can park your trailer or caravan and all of them are covered with grass. You have a decent shade covering throughout the day, but some stands are rather exposed to the sun. Each site has access to 2200V electricity in the form of 3-point electrical outlets. The ablution facilities are standard; you have shower cubicles and cubicles with flush toilets. Around the park there are some exciting activities to keep you busy. We went ziplining and really enjoyed it. It is an amazing experience sliding from mountain to mountain. You really get a whole new perspective of the park. I also tried my hand at archery which was a lot of fun, and you can go drive one of the loops and see if you can spot some wildlife. Then there’s a few hiking trails that you can explore. Some will only take an hour or so and others are overnight trails. This is great way to explore the park and take in some of the incredible views the park has to offer.
